*THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS*
Introducing the Songs of Gillian Welch for the first time at Passim’s School of Music! Join Avi Salloway and a great group of students on a musical journey learning Gillian’s beautiful songs. Gillian is a humble legend known for her timeless songs that could be ancient folk songs or written yesterday. Eternal themes mix with melancholy melodies and imagery that place you directly into the essence of the song. From “O’ Brother, Where Art Thou” to “Time (the Revelator)”, “Soul Journey” and beyond, Gillian’s music has been ornamented by her longtime partner, the iconic guitarist, David Rawlings. We’ll also dive into David’s stylistic approach to accompaniment.
This ensemble class welcomes all instruments and vocalists. As a group we’ll create arrangements, pass around verses, adding harmony and improvisation. We’ll share stories about the songs, enjoy good company, and shake the blues of the world.
This is an intermediate class. Familiarity with open chords, simple rhythms, basic melodies, and have *some* experience playing songs is recommended. All you really need is a love for playing songs with other people who also love songs!
This class will be held ONLINE from 6:45-7:45pm ET on Mondays, Jan 6, 13, 27, Feb 3, 10
Please note: Pre-sales are highly encouraged! Sales end 2 hours before the class begins. Classes will be held on Zoom. 3 students are required for this class to meet. If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified and receive a full refund.
