What does it mean to be a side-musician? Whether you can switch chords comfortably, run up and down any scale with ease, or have been playing with other musicians for years, being a complementing side musician takes far more than skill. Come join Avi Salloway and learn how to support the song and lead singer with taste and technique. You’ll develop your skills and ideas for fills, solos, and chord voicings for a variety of songs by Bob Dylan, John Prine, Bonnie Raitt, Hank Williams, and Taj Mahal. This class will be process oriented learning. You’ll play songs together as a group and Avi will introduce techniques, scales, and picking patterns to ornament and support the song. Avi’s had the pleasure of backing up some of the greats’, including Pete Seeger, Jack Johnson, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Bombino and he looks forward to sharing the experience with you all this fall!
All instruments are welcome, and intermediate to advanced skill is recommended.
This class meets on Mar. 21, 28, Apr. 4, 11, 18, 25.
